What does a typical day for you look like?IMG_0107-3

We have a daily standup around nine in the morning, where we follow up on the status of our development tasks and try to sort out questions and blockers. After that we work individually or in groups writing Java programs to implement new functionality or investigate bugs in Orchestra/VisitManager. A lot of time is also spent on internal peer reviews to try to minimize production bugs. In the afternoons we often have different sorts of design or planning meetings where we make sure we know how to handle upcoming tasks. Regardless if working in the office or from home the day also includes too many trips to the coffee machine.

How long have you been with the company?
I originally started in 2012. Left in 2019 and returned one year ago in 2021

What is something that is important for you in a workplace?
To have competent, intelligent, and socially skilled colleagues around me. Then I can contribute with my own abilities and together we cover the entire field.

How did you first come across Qmatic?
In 2012 a number of old colleagues were working at Qmatic and for some reason they encouraged me to apply for a job here as well.

What do you like most about working for Qmatic?
First and foremost, the people I work with and meet on my forays to the coffee machine. Also, that the size of the company makes it possible to see from one end to the other, so I know pretty much who everyone is and what they do. We are a small company with a big footprint around the world.

Is there any specific event while working for Qmatic that you remember and want to share?
When delivering an Orchestra Installation and Configuration training (supposed to have at most 12 participants) in Dubai, we ended up with “more than 27 participants from 11 countries”.

Name/describe something that makes you happy
At work, the occasions when I find a beautiful and simple solution to a programming problem. Most of the times the solutions are complicated and ugly but occasionally you stumble over a way to describe and handle the data that feels right, all the way into your bones.

What is something you are proud over?
That we, a small group of people in a small company that was started around a restaurant ordering system, has developed one of the leading visit manager systems in the world.

Fun fact about you?
I got a genealogy program a couple of weeks ago and started to fill in what I know about my ancestors. Then the program started matching it with other people’s family trees. And did it match! It turns out that I can trace a verifiable line back to among others, Prince Vladimir Sviatoslavitj the Holy of Kyiv, Harald Hårdråde who lost England in the battle at Stamford Bridge in 1066 and Olof Skötkonung who was the first Christian king of Sweden. If I disregard historical correctness and fill in what is stated in the old Norse sagas, I can continue the ancestral line to Ragnar Lodbrok of Netflix Vikings fame and Sigurd Fafnesbane, who is said to have slayed a dragon (my direct ancestor 40 generations away so beware all you dragons out there).
